I smile big when my kids look forward to spending quality family time together. They’re at that age now where they much rather hang with their friends than with mom and dad. But when there is talk of a day long road trip I really don’t think they care where we go as long as the destination includes good food and together time. We had been talking about taking a drive up to Santa Barbara to do some shopping, maybe find a place to go horseback riding or rent tandem bikes and ride them along the boardwalk. The night before, my sweet hubby was checking to see where we could stop and pick fruit along the way since it’s (surprisingly enough) something we’ve never done before and the kids have been wanting to. He found this beautiful place in San Luis Obispo about an hour and half past Santa Barbara. If you have never been to Avila Valley Barn I highly recommend you load up the kids and hit the road. It’s such a wonderful family friendly environment. They had a farm pet area where you can pet and feed the goats, sheep, alpacas, emus and chickens. For a dollar you get a bag of lettuce to feed to the animals and let me tell you those little buggers inhaled it all..LOL!!! We passed on the hay ride and pony rides because of the weather. It was HOT so we were trying to stay in the shade as much as possible. Aside from the animals they also had fresh fruit and veggies and all kinds of yummy sweet treats and a yummy deli where you can order food from. I had their wonderful Avila Lighthouse salad. It was the bomb!!! Oh and they they had the BEST ever fresh roasted corn. There are just not enough words in the english language to accurately describe how yummy and sweet the corn was. There was a little area table nearby where you can choose your seasonings to sprinkle on your corn. I like mine with salt, butter and a few sprinkles of parmesan cheese. Delish!!!!
